How to reset the Samsung Galaxy S3

Samsung Galaxy S3 Reset

If your Samsung Galaxy S III is frozen or unresponsive, you might want to try different reset procedures before visiting the Help Desk and be several days (or weeks) without your precious. Please remember to backup all of data before proceeding, as you might not be able to access it thereafter. It is also recommended to fully charge your phone and remove the SIM and Memory cards.

This post collects the different procedures you might want to try to recover your smartphone. If none of these methods work for you, you're advised to contact the official after-sales service for support; don't try to repair the phone yourself and never disassemble it.

Reboot

To reboot your phone, follow these steps:
  • Press and hold the Power button for about 10 seconds

Factory Reset using the menu

To factory reset your phone, follow these steps:
  • Disable the memory card encryption before proceeding (if you encrypted your card)
  • Switch off the phone
  • Remove the SIM Card
  • Switch on the phone
  • Select Settings > Back up and reset > Factory reset > Reset device > Delete all

Factory Reset using the secret code

To factory reset your phone, follow these steps:
  • Disable the memory card encryption before proceeding (if you encrypted your card)
  • Switch off the phone
  • Remove the SIM Card
  • Switch on the phone
  • Go to the phone dialer and type *2767*3855#

Hard Reset

To hard reset your phone, follow these steps:
  • Switch off the phone
  • Press and hold Volume Up and Home (center) buttons
  • Press the Power button until the phone vibrates
  • Hold the buttons until the Android logo appears, then release all the buttons
  • Using the Volume Up and Down buttons, highlight the Wipe data/Factory reset option
  • Press the Power button to confirm
  • Using the Volume Up and Down buttons, highlight the YES - Delete all user data option
  • Press the Power button to confirm
  • When the format finishes, switch on the phone to reboot.
