Jolla goes China, Huawei goes Finland

Jolla Mobile Logo

Jolla, the Finnish company that spun off from Nokia and developed Sailfish, an open mobile OS based on MeeGo and Mer Core open source projects, is establishing its R&D operations in China mainland in order to lead the Sailfish Alliance development and ecosystem.

At the other hand, Huawei Technologies, a Chinese multinational networking and telecommunications company headquartered in China (largest telecommunications equipment maker in the world after they overtook Ericsson some time ago) is about to open up a major R&D facility in Helsinki, with an eye on mobile device development and an investment of about $90 million.

Are these announcements close related? Or is it just a coincidence? Will Huawei become the secret strategic partner of Jolla Mobile? Only time will tell. In the meanwhile, please pay a visit to the just opened Jolla Website and vote your favourite logo for the company behind the next mobile ecosystem.

What do you think? Are you eagerly waiting to get rid of your smartphone and embrace Sailfish? Please have your say in the comments section below.
